LAVALE- Leona P. Long, 95, of LaVale, passed away on Friday November 29, 2019 at home.
Born February 18, 1924 in Browton West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Armstrong) and Kale B. Phares. She was also preceded in death by her husband Webster Bruce Long II, her son Mark Long on February 2007; her brother James Lee Phares and his widow Joan Phares; her sister Thelma Welch.
Leona was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and Cathermans Business School. She was employed at The Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, Hout Construction Company, Christ Lutheran Church, Tri-State Beauty Academy, and was retired from the Board of Education of Allegany County. Leona was a member of the LaVale Lionettes as well as the former Mallwalkers.
Surviving are her son Matthew L. Long of LaVale; two granddaughters Megan and Caitlyn Long; two grandsons Matthew Murphy and Samuel Long; one great-grandson Evan Coleman; one brother Charles “Bill” Phares.
At Leona’s request, there will be no visitation and all services will be private.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
