LAVALE- Coletta Mary Foote was born in Midland, Maryland as Coletta Woods June 19, 1921. The eldest of William and Maria (Canty) Woods' eight children, she outlived all but her youngest sister, Roseann.
After graduating from Lonaconing High School, Coletta was offered a secretarial job with the National Youth Administration. With that program she worked as a secretary at various schools. During World War II she put her secretarial skills to work at the Celanese Corporation of America. After the war, she began a long career working as a school secretary in Allegany County.
In 1942 Coletta married her high school sweetheart, Theodore "Ted" Foote. Their daughter Susan was born in 1945 while Ted was serving in China, as a Flying Tiger. Their son Philip was born in 1954. Coletta endured the loss of her son in 1973, the loss of her husband in 1993 and the loss of her daughter in 2009.
Ted and Coletta raised their family in LaVale and relaxed at their second home on Deep Creek Lake. They were members of St. Patrick Parish, in Cumberland. Coletta was a talented quilter and seamstress. She won many quilting ribbons and inspired her husband, a craftsman, to create a line of quilt pattern-themed silver jewelry.
When she was 80 years old, Coletta sold her homes in Maryland and moved to Cape Cod, MA to be closer to her daughter Sue, son-in-law Chuck Kolb, and their family. Having lived her entire life to that point in western Maryland, it was a bold move. But Coletta thrived on Cape Cod, making many friends and maintaining her cheerful disposition even through illnesses in her later years.
She is survived by her sister Roseann Morton, son-in-law Chuck Kolb, grandchildren Craig Kolb and Amy Kolb Noyes, their spouses Corey Keller and Daniel Noyes, and great-grandchildren Adriana Noyes, Ian Noyes, Zoe Kolb and Theo Kolb.
Coletta will be laid to rest beside her husband and son at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, in LaVale. There will be a Memorial Mass at Christ the King Parish in Mashpee, MA in the spring.
